The student effectively collaborates for the achievement of individual, organizational, professional, and societal goals.

Collaboration is a way for librarians to work with those around them: teachers, administration, community leaders so that we can best serve our public. This SLO speaks directly to that collaboration. We must not be islands in a vast ocean, but be extensions of the main land. For instance, in a school library, collaboration between teachers and librarian will only further aide the student in what they are learning about. Librarians and teachers collaborating on lessons can extend the learning that takes place in the classroom out to the library, and maybe even beyond the walls of the school. Collaboration is a way for us to help students meet their educational and personal goals.

This SLO truly outlines the crux of a modern librarian. The modern librarian must not only be able to check out books and be a teacher but they must also be able to diversify their collection and be a team player, or collaborator, with teachers and administration alike. Today's librarians must be able to work well with others to help meet the needs of their student population. The bottom artifact that I included above show the importance of collaboration and why librarians must be willing to be a part of this collaboration.

Collaboration is a change that needs to happen in many of our school libraries. I have seen from past experiences that teachers and administration simply see the library as a storage place for books and the librarian as someone who takes care of these books. This vision needs to change, and perhaps one of the best ways to make this change is for the librarian to offer themselves as collaborators. They are willing to work with teachers and administration to help the students meet their goals. This collaboration can include lesson plan and unit plan extensions from the classroom and into the library. It can include makerspaces. It can include displaying of art work or other student projects in the library. Collaboration, simply put, is teamwork. The more people n a student's team, the greater their success rate is.

The top artifact shows how libraries can diversify their collections as well as means of reaching out to the public. All people do not receive information the same way. Diversification allows for people with different learning styles a chance at receiving information given to them. Also included in the same artifact are different ways libraries use social media to reach out to people and the tools they include on their websites to help people see what their library has to offer.

Diversification among the library's collection will not only be a valuable tool for all patrons that frequent the library, but it will help reach audiences of all backgrounds. A library with limited resources helps few and a library is a public municipality that exists for the benefit of the public it serves. Diverse selections of books and other materials as well as classes offered truly makes a library useful. To limit resources to a narrow subject or collection is not the best use of a library. Our world is changing and our libraries need to keep abreast of these changes to remain valuable to the community it serves.
